A Visit From My Neighborhood RIAA Stormtroopers
WHOO HOO! Here I am, about to run off to the GDC, and pow! Internet activity is gone. I call and get “Sorry, we’re having an outage.” So, I wait until the next day - still down. I call again: The truth is that I downloaded a copy of Heroes, episode 13 in fact. Note that I used Azureus, which after downloads, it resends the packets on to the next computer - a very efficient program that reduces network traffic.
My “crime” wasn’t that I downloaded - you can go to NBC.com for that.
So… Bad, BAD Bob! I “rebroadcast” a copy of HEROES, which has already been broadcast several times. And because Cox is in bed with NBC, Cox blocked my access and warned me “three times, you’re out” rule.
After 24 years of being on the internet, where the rule is a laissez faire “don’t be a dick” rule rules, the paradigm has shifted back officially. The internet is now back in control of corporations, entities that have no moral or financial responsibilities to anyone.
What a waste.
