Just because something is vulgar and irreverant doesn’t make it funny. The words “anal warts” are not funny by themselves and they don’t become funny just because you or whoever made this comic has Jesus saying it.
I’m going to venture a guess that you and your readers are beyond the second grade. If that’s the case you should have a more developed sense of humour.
This isn’t about Christ being disrespected, though I hate that as well. This is about the fact that atheists pretend to think that something is funny just because they think it’s insulting to Christians. If you want insulting AND funny, read Sin City. The author clearly has no idea what s/he is talking about, but s/he still manages to be funny sometimes.
I rate this entry thusly: Booooo! Boo on this bad comic and boo on pretending that it’s funny just because it’s insulting.

    Welcome Repentance,

Honestly, I’ve read your posts and question why you’d even post here unless you’re looking for someone to argue. As far as I’m concerned, as long as you behave, you’ll be good to go.

I am not pretending, I enjoy this type of humor. I think Anomaly is one of the better comics our there.

Sin City rocked. It was an awesome comic book and a decent movie.

    Welcome,
    -Bob

I found Heresy.com because I was looking for websites about modern Christian Heresies and ended up here.

I initially signed up to tell you that the Wii-J guy didn’t invent the terms flick-start or beat matching. They are standard DJ terms. But then I saw this comic and had to say my piece.

This comic is very typical of anti-Christian “humour”. The first panel where he is asking why God has forsaken him makes no sense at all. It’s as though the writer of the comic doesn’t know what forsaken means, but it’s the only Jesus saying he knew so he threw it in. It grinds on my nerves the same way that people quoting Juliet saying “wherefore art thou Romeo” do when they think it means she’s asking where he is. Except in the Romeo and Juliet instance, it’s a fairly honest mistake.

But then it starts talking about anal warts as though anal warts themselves are a funny topic. It reeks of an undeveloped sense of humor. It makes the guy sound unintelligent. It’s the same as when people think their comics are funny just because they swear a lot in them or have ridiculously senseless violence. It seems as though it’s supposed to be shocking and that the shock is supposed to be funny. But it’s not shocking. It’s commonplace. My generation is one that seems to only be satisfied if it’s trying to piss off all previous generations and ditch everything that was once considered decent.

And lastly, Jesus was not nailed to a board.

I have no desire to argue. But I don’t specifically desire not to argue either. Neither do I want to go around preaching to everyone. Ultimately I’d like for people who don’t believe in God to stop talking about Him, and people who do believe in God to stop trying to force a godly lifestyle on ungodly people. I’d like for unfunny people to not be encouraged and that includes people who write comics like the one above as well as Jim Davis, Cathy Guisewite, and Bil Keane. I’d like people to be generally more respectful and less selfish. Show a little more concern for the people around them and make an effort to make life more peaceful, even if it means sacrificing a little hedonism in the process.
But instead I have to deal with people everyday who mock the things they don’t understand, then call me intolerant. I have to explain myself and my beliefs over and over again to the same people who seem to forget everything they heard last time we spoke. I have to listen to kids yelling loud profanities in public places because apparently that’s okay. I have to listen to people tell me I should die or be killed because I believe in Jesus.
I said that my rant had nothing to do with the fact that this comic depicted Jesus in an ill manner, but that’s probably not true. It’s true that the type of humor in that particular strip (I don’t know about any other Anomaly strips because I’ve never read any) rubs me the wrong way because it’s lacking in anything that could be considered decent humor, but if it hadn’t have been about Jesus I likely would have kept it to myself.

Oh, and when I said Sin City, I meant Sinfest.

Wow. That was incredibly funny! I’d like to think that Jesus would have found it funny too. Who knows. But for Repentance to assume that anyone who finds it funny is an atheist is extremely narrow minded [and, also, incorrect]. I’m not even remotely an atheist - predominately because I don’t have the faith necessary to be an atheist. Atheism strikes me as the most faith-based religion I could imagine….

Having said that, I think Family Guy is funny too [primarily season 3 - it’s gone downhill since the return]. I guess I’m just not so much into Jewish legalism as to believe in blasphemy and its ilk. My interpretation of the philosophy of Jesus is that he was trying to free everyone from that kind of mentality…
