The Internet has Answers for Everything!

September 20th, 2006

Yes, I appreciate the simplicity of a Frequently Asked Questions post! They get so much of the basics out of the way.

So, I finally found a decent FAQ for God. I admit, as a person interested in the truth about the big diety, the one who commands Thou Shalt Not Kill, but everyone is dying to commit suicide for, molest small children for, dominate fellow humans - especially women - for!

I’ve found the light!!! I give you…

The Official God FAQ

Enjoy

  1. Repentance says

I certainly hope your reasons for rejecting God are stronger than the desire to not be seen as an idiot by people who have no idea what they are talking about. I also hope that it’s not fueled by a desire to “move forward”, as it were, since as an atheist you have no option but to be an evolutionist and therefore you believe there is no forward, or better way. We simply are what we are. We randomly ended up here and we will randomly leave here. Or more likely we’ll die out because we’ve inheritted intelligence, so called, which is the direct enemy of blind natural processes. We’ll just tinker ourselves into non-existence. But ultimately it doesn’t matter. We once did not exist and we will once again not exist. We were eternally non-existent prior to our births, and we will be eternally non-existent after our deaths.
Of course, this situation is impossible, because eternal implies infinite and you could never reach a point in infinite time or eternity since in order to have reached that point you would have had to traverse an infinite amount of time or non-time before hand. But since infinite implies never ending you could never have come to be in that situation.
We do exist though, which means that we somehow began. We either began from nothing or we began from something. If we began from nothing then we can throw science out the window because that flies in the face of everything scientific. From nothing, nothing comes. But if we came from something, that something was either God or it wasn’t. Either way it was eternal because if it wasn’t then it was nothing for a time and then became something, which we already decided was not possible.
Eternity itself is unimaginable because everything we know has a beginning and and end. Yet since we are here proves that something somewhere is eternal, even if it is only whatever is surrounding the Universe. Multiple Universes only push this problem further and further back. Something somewhere has existed forever.
Given that then, coupled with the fact that the most complex devices known to man are the things that make the world we live in, i.e. cells, and we know that complexity means intelligence (hence groups like SETI), then we can only assume that this eternal substance is God of some sort. From there it’s only a matter of searching to see who He really is.
